Fishing Report 9/29/08

The catt came up very quick and fell down just as fast, but it should bring in more fish this week depending on how much rain we get this week. The smaller tribs are low with little or no real numbers of fish in them to report right now.

Fishing Report 9/27/08

I fished the catt this morning and with water dropping fast and warm temps the fishing was very slow, I caught 3 jacks on olive buggers and hairballs. There was not a lot of guys out so pressure wasnt bad but the water was low and clear. We need rain bad here and colder weather to have the fishing get better.

Fall Flies for Steelhead

These flies are my favorite patterns for chasing steelhead here in the tributaries. The Mirrored Minnow and Rainbow Runners are very good bait fish patterns that are my go to flies for early fall chrome. Swinging these flies through deep runs and at the head of pools usually results in bone jarring strikes. Olive wooly buggers are the fly that most people know and love to fish swinging or dead drifted this fly is deadly. Olive or white marabou spey flies are elegant and very effective. Egg flies are the single most patterns you must have in your box, Hairballs, sucker spawn and single eggs in every color imaginable in sizes 8 – 12. When using egg flies I use a strike indicator with one or two small split shot and dead drift them in shallow runs or in pocket water.

Fishing Report 9/20/08

After the recent rains flushing out the Catt of all the dust and debris that the spring and summer have accumulated, my friends have reported that jacks and some adults were being caught on the lower rez. The fish seem to be spread out so walking a lot is the norm at this time of the year.

Silver Rockets

Labor Day to me is the turning point for me as summer goes and my fun time is starting to begin. The cooler temps and rain fall starts me thinking about the silver rockets that are waiting for me. It’s time to start tying to replace last year’s supply and throw out the flies you made (after a few cocktails) that you were sure they would work. Checking other webs sites and making a few phone calls to get the latest scoop from others to see if they are “Running Yet” is part of the excitement and the fever we have at this time of year. I start out looking the new products that come out and see what I need for the upcoming fishing season. Sage, Rio, Waterworks, Ross, Redington, Scientific Anglers, Fishpond and others constantly coming up with or improving their existing lines, this is what it’s all about (New Toys for Big Boys). I can’t wait to get the latest gear and test them out on the water with my friends.
