Stream Report 6/30/08

The streams came up, but the smaller ones should be fishable monday or tuesday. The rain has helped the stream flows and also cooled the temps to make fishing more productive. Try Golden stoneflies and isonychia as well as terrestrials during the day and the evenings, caddis and sulpher spinners right at dark. Anytime we have cool cloudy weather we may also get some good BWO hatches from mid day on in most of our local streams.

Stream Report 6/16/08

Low water is here and looks like no end in site. Water temps are warm but stable, and staying good for now. sulphers at dusk and spinners with them. Small black caddis March browns and the spinners are also around. Some reports of golden stoneflies hatching and the nymphs will help you until dush as well. Try using Pheasant tail nymphs behind a dry or swim it in the current.

Fishing June 8

Phil and I went out this past weekend to do a little trout fishing if the weather wasn’t too hot. As I waited for him I managed to land a fat 14” brown on a peacock emerger pattern. I saw many larger fish just dimple the surface taking small midges, but as I tried to put the sneak on them, they disappeared into the depths of the pool. The day proved to be better than we expected with many fish feeding and caught (many more missed than will be admitted too) the sun climbed higher in the sky and the heat just killed the trout mood. Here in these pics I have Phil showing the proper way the defoliate a tree with a fly. So we switched gears and went after smallies. The fishing was very slow but I did get a nice 2lb and a few smaller ones in a couple of hours.
