WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4/28/2012

I went small stream this weekend to Clear Creek to get away from the crowds and enjoy the day. The fishing was slow do to the cold temps, but the fish are beautiful and feisty fighters. The hatches that came off were small olives and sporadic, so i threw on a small olive wet and had some fun.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4/21/2012

I had a last minute change of heart and went to the Catt instead of going inland, the water was in very good shape (flow and color) and the smallies ready to play. The flies I used were my Guida's Emerald Shiner, Mirrored Minnows, and Clouser Minnows. The day was crappy for weather, but made up for it in fish, we caught over forty bass, two carp, one sucker and two steelhead (not landed) all in all a great day to be out.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4/15/2012

Andy, myself his Father and brother all headed out to the Oatka for his fathers birthday. The parking areas were full with fisherman, but we went on to find some quite water. The first thing we ran into was a full blown henny hatch, bugs everywhere and the fish taking them as fast as they could. Andy was the first hook up on his first cast and landed a beauty. I took a soaking from tripping on a rock and went under holy crap the water is cold!!!!! after drying off I started to catch fish on nymphs. Andy made up a very nice henny dry with post that was the cats ass. All of the trout I caught were on a Holy Grail size 14 in hares ear. The water conditions were low and clear and cold.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4/7/2012

I went to see my favorite girl on sat, the colder temps made fishing tough, but in the end we did manage a dozen fish for the day. The methods varied as the water warmed up a little, nymphs and spring creek specials then wets and dries for the evening. The fish were rising to BWO and stone flies, and the surface actitivey lasted about 45 min.
