WNY Fly Fishing Equipment Review II - Sage ESN 10' 3WT

I have been using this rod for awhile now and can tell you this is one of the finest rods I have ever cast!!!!! This rod can do it all. The rod is designed for euro style nymphing, but I have thrown  streamers, double nymph rigs with a indy, and thrown dries with absolute precision. The rod tracks well throughout the casting motion and delivers the payload on a dime. The softer tip and extra length make mending and line control a breeze, as well as protecting smaller tippets. Fighting big fish is no problem at all, in fact the several trout I have caught this year from dinks to 20" plus monsters has been a joy. I have found no problems with the 10' length at all on any creek that I have used it on so far from Spring Creek, Oatka Creek, Clear Creek, Upper Catt, Genny, and Elton Creek. You owe it to yourself to get one of these rods, I promise, it will amaze you and make you a better fisherman. Dan Colville Outfitters would be the place to buy these rods. (716) 627-7335

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 5/25/2013

Jeff and I went to the Genny today despite the freaking cold air temps. The fishing started out slow then heated up to a fever pitch with tons of bugs coming off. Jeff landed a monster 20" brown on a olive bugger and I lost another 20" plus fish as he wrapped me around a log. The bugs coming off were march browns, caddis and sulphers. All of the fish I got on top came from a usual tied as a march brown, we also saw for the first time an bald eagle.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 5/18/2013

I went to the Genny this weekend for some much needed water flogging, and she didn't let me down. The water was in perfect shape in level and color, the weather was just as good with overcast skies and a slight breeze. The fish I caught were a mixture of browns and rainbows and were caught using olive buggers, black buggers, wet flies and dries. The bugs coming off were as follows caddis, blue wing olives, march browns and sulphers, now nothing was coming off in any great numbers, but you can catch them on different dries. It was nice to see some natural reproduction on the Genny and a few of the browns that were caught had all the par marks on them and were 4" long. The bigger fish on the average were from 14" - 16" with only a few dinks all in all quality fish.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 5/11/2013

Most of the streams are rising and getting off colored, I would look for the smaller ones and try for them. The weather is not on our side for this weekend, but we must fish on, the bugs coming off are caddis, blue wing olives, with march browns coming any day now.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 5/4/2013

I went today to the Catt for some green trout action, The water was a perfect color and flow, the fish were found in sections not everywhere, so you had to cover water to find them. I used my Sage 7WT Switch, with a sink tip and 2X flouro for tippet and a olive and white clouser minnow. Almost every fish took the fly near the end of the swing while stripping it in very slowly.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 5/1/2013

It's time to hit the big water and chase the bass and drop backs, the reports are very good for both right now. Most of the fish are caught on White Lighting and olive/white clousers swung and stripped back, the fish are low, but moving up everyday.
