WNY Fly Fishing Fly of the Month - The Hendrickson

This is our early and first big hatch of the year, big flies and fish that have not been fished over for some time. These flies hatch mostly in the warmer afternoon hours and the spinner fall is in the evenings.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4/26/2014

We went the Oatka today to break out the smaller gear and work out the kinks. The water was high and clear despite the rain we got over night and in the morning. The fishing was good, I got 3 nice browns all on the spring creek special. We saw very little bug action due to the colder temps, but a nice day to be out inland.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4/25/2014

The steelhead streams are just about done, except the catt which still may hold some fish. The big question will be what the rain will do to us this weekend.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Reprt 4/19/2014

Jeff, Ron, Paul and myself headed out for some lake run action and we had one of those days that you wait for all season. The fishing started out slow, but as the temps warmed up so did the fishing. We caught fish using egg patterns and White Lighting. The fish were very eager to take swung flies and crushed them.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 4-13/14/2014

I went out this weekend for inland trout to get away from the crowds, so we went to Oatka and found the water very dirty still so we went to another spot and got a few. Today I had the fishing flu and went out for some steelhead, I went out to the Erie tribs and got into a pod of fish that gave up over a dozen before the jig was up, some fresher hens and some beat-up males. I got them on brighter sucker colors and White Lighting

Jeff, Paul and I went out to do some much needed fishing and to get out and stretch the legs. The fishing was slow, but we did manage a few steelhead and old rubber lips are in force.

The colored dots on this map depict streamflow conditions as a percentile, which is computed from the period of record for the current day of the year. Only stations with at least 30 years of record are used.
The gray circles indicate other stations that were not ranked in percentiles either because they have fewer than 30 years of record or because they report parameters other than streamflow. Some stations, for example, measure stage only.
