WNY Fly Fishhing Stream Report 6/27/2015

Tom and I went down to the Genny to fish before the rain arrives on Saturday, the water was up and stained but at a very good level especially for this time of year. The fish were taking caddis and sulphers on top, we also caught them swinging wets and of course olive buggers.

WNY Fly Fishing - Tech Idea

I have been like most  when it come to your materials and how they are put away or stored, most of us use small plastic totes or containers. I was sitting in front of the computer surfing the web when I came across a carousel for coffee and thought why can't I make one for fly tying materials, so I did and here it is. The construction was pretty simple peg board, a lazy Susan, zip ties, L brackets, some screws, wood glue and some wood for the base.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report - Fathers Day 2015

Dan, Tom and myself went out to the upper catt for fathers day, it started out slow, but quickly turned into a great day despite the weather. We all caught fish on buggers and wets, we got a good mix of rainbows and browns. The fish ranged from turds to some very nice ones pushing 16" and some very large ones that broke off.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 6/14/2015

It depends on where you want to go fishing on the water conditions you will face, I crossed over creeks that were low and clear to others a raging mess. I would look on the USGS maps and find one that is falling or one the is normal to this time of year.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 6/9/2015

The streams are getting a much needed flushing out this week, we needed more water and cooler temps for our cold water buddies. The fishing should be very good for the weekend, I would look for caddis, isonychia's, BWO's on cooler cloudy days, sulphers, PMD's and for the slower times throw ants and beetles.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 6/6/2015

Tom, Jeff and I went inland for dry fly action, the water was up a little and stained, but very fishable. The water temps are starting to reach critical, so be mindful about how long you fight your fish and release them after are fully recovered. We caught fish on caddis, Isonychia, caddis pupas, and the spring creek special. The majority of the fish today were rainbow trout with a few brown trout mixed in to keep it interesting.
