The cold weather has put a damper on the early morning fishing and bugs, but the warmer afternoons have made up for it. the streams are in prime conditions and the fish are eager to look up or take swung flies. The weather for the weekend doesn't look all that good so pick and choose wisely.

The cooler temps and rising water will put the bugs/fishing down for awhile. The reports I was getting before all this crazy weather was the fish were looking up and the fishing was getting better and better everyday, with the exception of ten thousand guys out fishing and walking the trails. I also have been getting a lot of feed back on the amount of garbage being left out on the streams/trails which doesn't surprise me with all the traffic, normally i would say do our part and pick it up, but with the crud going on its going to be very hard to do for safety sake. Please Do Not Litter

Tom and a buddy went out today for some inland, he said they went to oatka. The water was fine and clear, he said the amount of people was crazy in the park section. Bugs were popping and few fish were rising, he caught one euro nymphing and his buddy caught one on the swing.Thanks for the report

Tom went out with a buddy from work and gave me this report for today, the weather was perfect and the water was beautiful, but cold. He said he did his best day euro nymphing with over 20 fish ranging is size from 6" to 18", his buddy was swinging buggers and caught some hogs!!!!. the amount of guys on the water he said was stupid with people all over the water in every section they fished

WNY Fly Fishing - More Little Tricks

here is another that will save you a lot of money in the long run, after you put your leader on for dirty nymphing or swinging only, cut about 18" off the end and tie in a very small barrel swivel, then retie the section you cut off back on. When and if you use shot put it under the swivel and if you do hang up all you lose normally is the 18" to put back on, plus if the fish spins and goes crazy who cares the swivel takes all of the line twist out, this works for inland as well as lake run and you will hardly use up your leaders anymore.

Jeff and a buddy went out today for some much needed time away from house arrest, so here is what they gave me, they fished 18 mile creek in hamburg this afternoon, the water was just about perfect color and flow, there was two million guys out on every square inch of water he said. They got fish on olive buggers, white lighting, egg patterns and trout beads. The fish were caught swinging, dead drifting streamers and egging it up, he also said the suckers were taking streamers on the swing.

I don't have a lot to report with the deep freeze we are in now and with opening week of deer season, but the thaw is coming and this should bring the fishing back to normal.

The rains came and gave the creeks a much needed flushing, most if not all Erie tribs have good numbers of fish in them, the catt is flowing at 661 right now. The cold weather has cleared the creeks so smaller flies should be used.

Jeff and Dale went out for steel head today and gave me this report, they went to 18 mile and said the water is clearing to almost gin clear with good numbers of fish in it, but tons of guys. The clear water makes the fishing tough but they did manage to get a few on olive buggers.

Wny Fly Fishing Stream Report 10/21/2019

Jeff went out today and has this report for us, the Catt was in great shape with some stain and viz about 18" with the temps on the cooler side. He went to the clear creek access point and walked back, he said they have done a massive amount of logging back there so be careful about tripping on stuff. Clear creek has a ton of lumber it on the lower end and the mouth is just about filled in, he went upstream and fished his way back down to clear creek, there was a fair amount of guys out today with only one fish caught by a pinner, he left about 10oclock. The guys he talked to on the stream have all said the same thing fishing is very spotty at best in this section.

The Catt has nice conditions on it right now with a slight stain as of Friday morning and descent flow, lots of guys are pounding the water with little to no results, a couple of skippers were caught and that's it, also the creek has changed quite a bit on the lower sections so get out and do some scouting to learn the new spots for this year.
