  Well the creeks are getting a good flushing these past two days and boy did they need it, lets just hope it stays wet for most of the summer and gives our cold water friends a break this year from the heat and hoards of people

 Dave and his buddy went out for inland and here is the report, the water was low and clear and cold. the fishing didn't pick up until later in the day and he said that stones and caddis were coming off but the fish weren't taking them off the top instead they were hitting the emergers, so he switched over to nymphs and clobbered them

 jeff and paul went out today to fish the erie tribs, they said the water was in perfect shape except for the slush early on. They saw 3 fish and that was it for the day, everyone they talked to said they have not seen or hooked any fish

 Well with these warmer temps coming and the rain in the forecast all the streams will be blown out, but should be open to fishing after this event if the ice leaves the streams which it should by the water levels now on the gauges being in the blue now.

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 10/9/2020

 Jeff and Dale went out today to the Catt for some fresh steel that has come in the big creek, they said the water was off colored but fine to fish. The creek was full of guys down low so they went to clear creek to explore and what they found was crazy!!! the mouth of clear creek is closed up by beavers that have built dams across the creek stopping any and all fish from going up it. They also found that someone is trapping the beavers and got one huge one and more traps are around so be careful. The fishing was slow with dale getting the only fish on a squirmy worm, Jeff said he swung every color and had a few short strikes, but no hook ups

 The rains are here and will flush out the creeks hopefully, we need it bad. The cooler temps should help out with the water temps and we can expect a push of fish up the Catt after it starts to go down and clears. The smaller creeks are rain dependent so if we get rain regularly they will get fish also faster.  I would start out with streamer patterns dead drifted and give some action to them if you have no takers

WNY Fly Fishing - Getting Ready for Fall

  Well with the colder weather coming its time to get out the lake run tackle and make sure its all ready for the abuse its going to get in the up coming months, if we get water. I hope everyone remembered to loosen the drag to no pressure on it and if you have a cork drag lube it up so it doesn't dry rot, check your waders for leaks, look at the fly line for cracks and wear, put new studs in boots, wash all Gore-Tex rain gear, look and clean your fly rod and inspect for any bad spots, dings etc, and lastly look at all tippet, leader and flies that are left over from the spring.

The tricos have been getting better and better in the last two weeks, the water is still on the warm side but early in the am you can get fish and still have some fun. The sizes that have been working have been 18 dbl tricos, 20 singles and 18 to 20 griffiths gnat on 6X or 7X tippet size didn't seem to matter but as always presentation does

The water temps have reached critical for most of the trout streams here in WNY, so with that in mind give our cold water buddies a much needed break after this year of total raping on all streams. I have never the amounts of fishermen on the water taking so many fish in my life, the reports I have been getting from the guys who fish all over have said the same thing

Paul and Jeff went out for inland and here is the report they gave me, the water was very cool in the am but as the day got warmer so did the water 67 was the reading they got, anyways the fishing was very good both underneath and on top. Mini buggers, nymphs and cahills seemed to be the best for the conditions.  Butter fingers Paul trying to get a pic of the fish and then he is marking this spot on GPS I guess for later fishing

WNY Fly Fishing Stream Report 5/20/2020

I went out with two of the finest people you will ever meet!!! Mike and Jeff have been long time friends and fishing buddies and went out to do some trout fishing. Well the water and the trout were very good, but the laughs were even better. I snapped the pics and these guys caught some very nice trout on caddis dries, buggers, wets and nymphs

The cold weather has put a damper on the early morning fishing and bugs, but the warmer afternoons have made up for it. the streams are in prime conditions and the fish are eager to look up or take swung flies. The weather for the weekend doesn't look all that good so pick and choose wisely.

The cooler temps and rising water will put the bugs/fishing down for awhile. The reports I was getting before all this crazy weather was the fish were looking up and the fishing was getting better and better everyday, with the exception of ten thousand guys out fishing and walking the trails. I also have been getting a lot of feed back on the amount of garbage being left out on the streams/trails which doesn't surprise me with all the traffic, normally i would say do our part and pick it up, but with the crud going on its going to be very hard to do for safety sake. Please Do Not Litter

Tom and a buddy went out today for some inland, he said they went to oatka. The water was fine and clear, he said the amount of people was crazy in the park section. Bugs were popping and few fish were rising, he caught one euro nymphing and his buddy caught one on the swing.Thanks for the report

Tom went out with a buddy from work and gave me this report for today, the weather was perfect and the water was beautiful, but cold. He said he did his best day euro nymphing with over 20 fish ranging is size from 6" to 18", his buddy was swinging buggers and caught some hogs!!!!. the amount of guys on the water he said was stupid with people all over the water in every section they fished

WNY Fly Fishing - More Little Tricks

here is another that will save you a lot of money in the long run, after you put your leader on for dirty nymphing or swinging only, cut about 18" off the end and tie in a very small barrel swivel, then retie the section you cut off back on. When and if you use shot put it under the swivel and if you do hang up all you lose normally is the 18" to put back on, plus if the fish spins and goes crazy who cares the swivel takes all of the line twist out, this works for inland as well as lake run and you will hardly use up your leaders anymore.
